From 23 to 27 August, AB’s free summer festival Feeërieën takes over the impressive Gare Maritime on the Tour & Taxis site. The line-up is as beautifully eclectic as ever. Turkish psychedelia, steamy electronics, an unearthly soprano and pure songwriting craft.
Are you ready to be introduced to the wonderful mix of genres and vibes we are serving up this year? On Monday, we host the succulent song whisperer and multidisciplinary artist Stef Kamil Carlens and the ‘slam poetry meets piano’ duo of Lisette Ma Neza and Neil Akenzua.
On Tuesday, the classically-trained pianist Dorian Dumont pays tribute to Aphex Twin, the wunderkind of electronic music, on the event of his 50th birthday. Karima El Fillali & Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest then pay tribute to Oum Kalthoum, the Egyptian singer who was lovingly known as ‘The Grand Dame of Arab Singing’.
On Wednesday, top soprano Lore Binon will collectively captivate the audience with a voice that cuts through the darkness. Next, Dez Mona & BOX (Baroque Orchestration X) preview their latest album ‘LUCY’, a stunning blend of pop and baroque.
On Thursday it’s Tim Vanhamel’s turn to present his 'Dubs Pour Oh La La' with Comité Hypnotisé: a nervous mix of ‘smoked out dub, boogie funk and minimalism’. We bring the evening to a beautiful close with Holden & Zimpel, the musical marriage between electronic music guru James Holden and clarinettist Waclaw Zimpel.
Vieze Meisje - aka performer/singer Maya Mertens and jazz pianist Azertyklavierwerke - open Friday night with sonorous chaos and hilarious lyrics. Things are then wrapped up with the hypnotic, atmospheric Turkish psychedelia of Gaye Su Akyol, a dream ending to an eclectic week.
