(Dubby) trance evening with masters James Holden and Tim Vanhamel at the controls
Here you will find an overview of all the possible means of access to the Gare Maritime as well as the necessary information for a covid proof experience.
20u00 - COMITÉ HYPNOTISÉ (b)
Tim Vanhamel’s musical spirit never sits still. In recent years, Vanhamel has been working (in the shadows of Millionaire) on 'Dubs Pour Oh La La' – which will soon be released under his moniker Comité Hypnotisé. 'Dubs Pour Oh La La' is – aside from being a delightful album title – a nervous and unpredictable collage of ‘smoked out dub and boogie funk’ and – according to Humo – "splinters funk, rave en Steve Reich-minimalisme". Can we also throw in echoes of Shackleton and dubmeister King Tubby? And couple it with our raging curiosity about this live premiere?

21u30 - HOLDEN & ZIMPEL (= James Holden & Waclaw Zimpel) (gb/pl)
Unique musical marriage between the English electronic music guru James Holden and the classically schooled Polish clarinet player Waclaw Zimpel! Or: how modular synths and an alto clarinet can conduct a lyrical conversation. The evidence was already to be heard on their acclaimed 'Long Weekend EP', released via Holden’s very own label Border Community. Bleep on that: "A striking mini-album of krautrock-cosmic infusions and instantaneous, lo-fi psychedelia".
In spite of Holden and Zimpel’s different musical backgrounds, they both share a love of the trance-inducing gnawa-music from Morocco. Their open musical outlook is something also highly valued by both. Holden has flirted with expressive jazz on his acclaimed album ‘The Animal Spirits’ and Zimpel has previously worked with dub-adept Shackleton and the analogue techno-artiest Rabih Beaini. Basically: exciting!
