The Band lives! A tribute, exact 40 years after ‘The Last Waltz’
Exactly 40 years after swan song ‘The Last Waltz’ – on 25 November 1976 in The Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco – a Belgian delegation of top musicians – entirely appropriated named Winterland ’76 – comes up with a tribute to The Band. Bob Dylan’s iconic Canadian backing band turned out the inimitable debut ‘Music From Big Pink’ in ’68 and forever changed the face of the country, americana, blues- & roots-rock and soul scene with worldly songs like ‘Tears Of Rage’, ‘Chest Fever’, ‘The Weight’ and ‘The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down’ (from successor ‘The Band’ from ’69). The legendary band encompassing Levon Helm (drums, vocals), Robbie Robertson (guitar, vocals), Rick Danko (bass, vocals), Garth Hudson (keys) and Richard Manuel (piano, vocals) was a source of inspiration to the world’s greats, folks like Grateful Dead, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Elvis Costello, Pink Floyd and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
