Balkan Punk EuroDada
This Balkan punk-band fronted by singer-guitarist Roeland Vandemoortele has been hitting stages for several years now and will soon be arriving at AB to present their recently released debut Hard Drive Error live. Vandemoortele toured at home and abroad for ten years with electro-punk duo Too Tangled and has since been on the road with theatre shows for the likes of Rick de Leeuw, Wim Opbrouck and Otto-Jan Ham.
His dream was to start a new, slightly obscure band that was capable of having a venue steam up with feverish delight in no time, like Mano Negra, T.C. Matic or King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard do. He sought, and found, companions in multi-instrumental violist Andries Boone (Guido Belcanto, Mandolinman, Tijs Vanneste and also very busy solo), bassist Mathias Moors (Mr. Paul & The Lowriders, The Antler King) and drummer-actor-photographer-what-not Bert Huysentruyt (Gorki, Het Zesde Metaal). They call the music they make ‘EuroDada’ that drifts on western rock, eastern scales and, above all, Belgian surrealism (with a big wink and references to our cultural heritage).
Casual, it is not: Green Crow Collective is absurd, but ordinary life is even more absurd. The insanity of war violence, the homo sapiens influencis (and other sorts who call their own bullshit high art), all get sung about. The deliciously deranged songs are elegantly elevated middle fingers to the rules in life and music. Not against an other, but rather for quite a lot. Freedom, playing pleasure, and the amps set at 11.
After one concert at Muziekgieterij in Maastricht, the foursome received a record deal with V2 Records and their debut album Hard Drive Error has just arrived in stores. The perfect preparation for what will be a committed, but exuberant evening at AB Club.
