Pommelien Thijs, Recupel and AB are working together to reward fans who recycle their old phones or smartphones with an exclusive concert. Our goal? To collect as many devices as possible and together make a difference for the environment.
Want to attend Pommelien’s exclusive concert on 28 September? Collect at least 3 old phones, register at abconcerts.be/pommelienrecupel, hand in your phones and get your concert tickets thanks to Recupel (while stocks last).
Why is it so important to recycle phones?
A study by Recupel and iVOX found that, in Flanders, over 1 million unused mobile phones and smartphones are gathering dust in drawers. These devices contain a lot of re-usable materials and resources. 9 in 10 of the Flemish respondents (89,1% TBC iVOX) aged 18 to 34 admit to having at least 1 (smart)phone lying around at home. A family with teenagers has, on average, three unused devices at home.
Meanwhile, new resources are being mined, growing scarcer all the time. A nasty situation for the environment and the people working in the mines. There are even armed conflicts over the control of these resources.
By recycling your old phones, you help to reduce the demand for new resources and contribute to a fairer, more sustainable world. Pommelien Thijs: “The production of our electronic devices has a major impact on people and on the planet. That’s why it’s important to use them responsibly and recycle as much as possible. During my series of concerts at AB from 29 April to 8 May, you’ll be able to hand in old phones. Recupel will then make sure that they’re sustainably and safely re-used or recycled in Belgium. And what’s more, taking part will earn you tickets to my extra show in September!”
Get your old phones ready for recycling
If you want to wipe the data from your old phones before handing them in, Recupel explains how to do that here. Don’t think you’re ready to say farewell to your old devices, because they have sentimental value or because you need a back-up? We get it, but do ask yourself if you’re really going to use them again. This is a great opportunity to do something good for the planet and get a special reward*!
