CARTE BLANCHE: STEF KAMIL CARLENS (ZITA SWOON) presents 'On The Wings Of A Rabbit'.

Each year for the CARTE BLANCHE series the AB appoints an (inter)national performer as curator to compile his or her own weekend-programme. The unique thing about this curatorship is that this AB-curator not only functions as programmer, but also forms the theme (as performer but also as part of the collaborations on stage). In '04 MAURO PAWLOWSKI took on the first edition. Last year it was the turn of internationally renowned choreographer WIM VANDEKEYBUS. This year ZITA SWOON frontman STEF KAMIL CARLENS has the honour.

Stef Kamil Carlens is no unknown to the AB. He's been here before with dEUS (during the Rock Rally), Zita Swoon, the dance show 'Plage Tattoo', the film project 'Sunrise', Kiss My Jazz and also solo during the Saint Amour literary evening.

He'll compile an exciting programme for the AB, a mix of music (from classic to pop), images and spoken word.

On the programme for SUNDAY 23 NOVEMBER:

B'Rock (B & ...)
The central attraction is B'ROCK, A Flemish but internationally oriented baroque orchestra containing young baroque specialists from Flanders, The Netherlands, Germany, France and England. Their core repertoire is music from the baroque period of the 17th and 18th centuries. Aside from 'established songs' the orchestra likes to pay attention to less well-known repertoire and even modern day music. Central to the Carte Blanche performance are the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Claire Chevalier (Fr)
Pianoforte specialist CLAIRE CHEVALLIER also comes from the classical corner. This French pianist, who found a new home in Antwerp, will interpret the work of the French (minimalist) pianist Eric Satie. By the way, this autumn she will also release an album of Satie interpretations including the pieces 'Gnossiennes' and 'Gymnopédies'. Chevallier (no unknown to halls like Kaaitheater, deSingel or Bozar) also has and exceptional interest in various artistic disciplines, which has led to collaborations with dance, theatre, or film makers like Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker (Rosas), Wayn Traub, Josse de Pauw and Rudolf Mestdagh.

STEF KAMIL CARLENS will be doing it solo this evening. SKC fans appreciate that this is a rarity. We saw SKC make a lasting impression solo during Saint Amour this year & at a small instore gig in Antwerp where he interpreted songs from Neil Diamond, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Joni Mitchell. SKC solo? Like we say, a unique experience!

De Kift (Nl)
DE KIFT from The Netherlands will be part of it all too (for the first time!) and this year they mark their 20-year milestone. De Kift can still guarantee a dizzying mix of East-European folk music, a dash of chanson, Dutch fanfare and all that with a solid injection of punk. To mark their 20-year existence, De Kift are also releasing a number of unique split-singles whereby De Kift fans record their Kift version and vice-versa. Already confirmed for the series are: Zita Swoon and Calexico!

Rudy Trouvé Septet (B)
RUDY TROUVÉ hardly needs any introduction. This musical millipede was active in many a combo: dEUS, Dead Man Ray, Kiss My Jazz, The Love Substitutes and Prima Donkey. Aside from that he is also the soul of the Heaven Hotel label that mainly serves to present his own output. Most releases are even packaged in a painting from his own hand. About his latest album 'Songs And Stuff Recorded Between 2003 And 2007, Part One', Focus Knack wrote: 'Succulente verzameling prachtsongs vol heerlijke gitaarmelodieën, bossaritmes, warme blazers en subtiele elektronica'. Humo: 'Een heerlijk eclectische mix van liedjes en instrumentals'.

Let's meet the night festively with BLUE FLAMINGO - alter-ego of Rotterdammer Ziya Ertekin? He's addicted to 78 rpm records and his superb mix-album 'Blue Flamingo 78 r.p.m.' is a timewarp to the '30's in which jazz, exotica and mambo reign. Unique and wonderfully crackly to boot. For those who think that MP3's and CD's sound good: refresh yourself with the real shit!
