Let's take a walk to classic 90'S hiphop
Masta Ace needs no introduction – at least for true hip-hop fans – but nevertheless a few words of praise below to convince the sceptics. Masta Ace, also known as Duval Clear, rose to fame as a member of hip-hop collective Juice Crew in 1988. Two years later, he put out his debut album Take a Look Around on Motown’s hip-hop label Cold Chillin' Records. On that album, Ace had us hear energetic rhymes that often dealt with socio-political issues with a healthy dose of irony. He soon emerged as one of the best storytellers in the genre.
Flash-forward to 2001, when his fourth (!) album Disposable Arts was released. It became an underground classic that peaked at #90 in Billboard’s ‘R&B/Hip Hop Albums’ chart. Many fans regard the album as one of the best concept albums in hip-hop history. The rapper continued to release singles and albums throughout the 2000’s.
Even in 2012, Masta Ace was still going strong in the rap game, releasing the MF Doom produced MA DOOM: Son of Yvonne. In 2018, he released A Breukelen Story with producer Marco Polo. They’ll soon be dropping a follow-up to that album. They will also be stopping by Brussels on their Richmond Hill album tour. Ace and Polo’s unique sound will take you back in time for an original tour of Brooklyn.
