Italian composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi plays one of his rare solo concerts.
Following previous visits earlier this year by Jóhann Jóhannsson and Ryuichi Sakamoto & Alva Noto, now it's the turn of pianist Ludovico Einaudi to appear in the brand new SILENCE IS SEXY series. In it, AB focuses on the so-called (new) contemporary classical composers that are increasingly gaining popularity in the field of ‘pop music’. They are engaged in the world of classical music but are often willing to have electronica trickle through in their work, often resulting in a unique sound.
Italian composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi is already a well-known phenomenon in foreign countries. But in recent years this contemporary minimalist performer has appeared increasingly often in Belgium, and they're always sold-out shows.
Ludovico Einaudi began his career with a number of compositions for orchestras and chamber ensembles that were soon performed at famous locations like Teatro alla Scala, The Queen Elisabeth Hall and The Center for Performing Arts in Los Angeles. As of the eighties he explored new paths and permitted more emotion into his music. World and pop music found their way into his writer's existence and since then he also appears in the footlights himself. Self-declared minimalist (he cites Michael Nyman and Philip Glass) who enjoys working with French (rock) musician Yann Tiersen just as much as Malinese kora player Ballake Sissoko. The points of contact between the acoustic and the electronic often remind one of Radiohead's more experimental work.
It's not without reason that the show is entitled ‘The Solo Concert’, in AB Ludovico will perform alone.
