Eclectic Australians get a taste of breakthrough
Seven people on stage, two EPs in five years’ time, and seven albums. King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard purely in numbers! The Australian psych-rockers from Melbourne have been going for it for years now and with their two most recent albums ‘Quarters!’ and ‘Paper Maché Dream Balloon’ (out via Heavenly Recordings by Mark Lanegan and Temples), both dating from 2015, they’re finally getting a sweet taste of breakthrough.
King Gizzard (blowing the mouth organ) & The Lizard Wizard (playing flute) sounds even more refined and fascinating than Tame Impala with the throbbing psychedelica of little brother Pond and the raw garage-rock of Thee Oh Sees. Live, they blow the fluff out of anybody’s ears with rugged, fuzzy krautrock and bold blues. We even almost forgot to mention the two drummers!
