Het Kampioenschap van Brussel is the fifth edition of this already legendary biennial competition for bands from Brussels, organised by JES. After six cracking qualifying rounds, spread over just as many of Brussels' cultural temples, eight bands have made it into the finale in the AB Box. For only €10, you can experience live what kind of up-and-coming talent is winning over the Brussels music scene.
The finalists will be fighting for the following prizes:
First prize: 1000 € + studio time in De Rockfabriek
Second prize: 500 €
Third prize: 250 €
What's more, all Kampioenschap van Brussel finalists will automatically be included in the “100% Puur” program. This is an initiative of the five Flemish provinces and the Flemish Community Commission (Brussels), coordinated by Poppunt. 100% Puur is a follow-up project but nevertheless a spring plank. During this program the finalists will be put in the picture on the vi.be website so that, over the next two years, they can receive opportunities to perform outside of their own provincial borders; in youth houses, music cafés, music clubs, festivals and cultural centres. 100% Puur will create conditions that make it even easier for organisers to book these bands: from free promotion to financial support. 100% Puur will keep a close eye on the quality of the performing opportunities, of course. The project wants to create opportunities, not merely provide funding.
Het Kampioenschap van Brussel can count on an excellent professional jury again this year. The jury consists of the compilers of 22tracks. That is an online jukebox with 22 playlists from various musical genres. Each lists consists of 22 tracks that have been selected by music specialists from Brussels. Every week 5 tracks are replaced, so there is always something new to discover.
