Efterklang unites with symphony orchestra.
“Efterklang’s new material unfolded in perfect harmony with the orchestra.”
“Standing ovations out of the way, the audience – and band – left the theatre aglow.”
“The string section popped in and out of songs with fantastic restraint and clarity, underscoring the emotional moments but rarely drawing attention to itself.”
(Time Out Sydney, May ‘12)
After 10 years, 400 concerts and three albums, Denmark's Efterklang still knows how to keep reinventing itself. The band continues to push back boundaries with their insatiable desire for experiment. Not only in their music but also in their live shows, where this collective often appears with a different line-up. Remember the Efterkids project with young musicians (that they were present AB in ’10 with) or of the ‘Performing Parades’ project with which they presented their album ‘Parades’ in ’09 – together with The Britten Sinfonia. The Guardian wrote of it at the time, in a **** review:"An example of how a total integration of orchestral, electronic & rock elements can bring rewards".
Efterklang is currently finishing up their album ‘Piramida’, on which they were assisted by Nils Frahm, Peter Broderick and multi-instrumentalist Earl Harvin (Air, Tindersticks, The Frames,…). To support this, release Efterklang will be touring under the name 'The Piramida Concerts' and will be performing the album worldwide with a symphony orchestra. The show's première took place at the end of May in the famous Sydney Opera House with The Sydney Symphony.
In Belgium Efterklang will be performing with the Sinfonia Rotterdam, under the direction of conductor Matthew Coorey. To arrange 'Piramida Concerts' for performance by an orchestra, Efterklang worked with Daniel Bjarnason (Sigur Rós, Múm), Missy Mazzoli (Kronos Kwartet) and Karsten Fundal (Under Byen) again. You'll find the likes of multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick and drummer Budgie (Siouxsie and The Banshees) in the band.
The Piramida Concert featuring Sinfonia Rotterdam is an international co-production between AB, Bozar and Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven.
