Experimental entertainment, pranksta rapper & Feist friend
Describe Chilly Gonzales? As a 'pur sang' musician, for sure. This Canadian pianist is able to very craftily and successfully experiment (and rap and compose.)
Sometimes solo piano, if need be: for more than 24 hours in one go for a world record! Other times with 'the first ever all orchestral rap album': 'The Unspeakable Chilly Gonzales', an impressive CD. Not only due to the solid arrangements, the snappy lyrics are finger-licking-good too.
What will it be this time? After a sold-out 'Nuit' in the Botanique earlier this year? That concert by the 'pranksta rapper, piano virtuoso and lounge lizard' earned a 1st place in De Morgen's Top5-tips from Les Nuits!
In 2002 he appeared in the ABClub with his novelty slapstick hit 'Take Me To Broadway'. Now famous worldwide as supplier or producer of the equally intriguing Feist, plus Jane Birkin, Katerine, Peaches, Jamie Lidell... and isn't he the man behind Puppetmastaz?
By the way, in between other activities, he also made the considerably acclaimed film 'Ivory Tower'. From which we would seem to recognise a number of the images contained in the clip for 'I Am Europe' below?
Real name Jason Beck but - mainly since his move to Europe, more specifically Berlin and Paris - known as Chilly Gonzales, a sort of funny Jewish super-villain MC.
Irresistibly entertaining live in any event, educational even. Come and Chilly, Gonzoa-les!
