Praga Khan 25th anniversary with greatest hits show.
Praga Khan has been around for 25 years and that – you can see us coming – should be celebrated, exuberantly. We first heard of Praga Khan in ’88, at the height of new-beat, though it was in a 'disguised' form then. Lay the new-beat classics ‘I sit on Acid’ by Lords of Acid, ‘Acid Queen’ by Major Problem or ‘D'Bop’ by Dirty Harry side by side and you have a literal reconstruction of how Praga Khan came into being. They were all signed by Jachri Praha or quite simply, Khan. It was in ’89 that a first single, ‘Bula Bula’, was released under the current name Praga Khan - although Jachri Praha Khan wouldn't have sounded bad either.
Strangely enough, this single was only a hit in Argentina, which meant that the very first shows as Praga Khan took place in Buenos Aires. Just like that other Maurice Engelen flagship, Lords Of Acid, the band started out more popular in foreign countries than at home. After x-number of albums (including the classic ‘21st Century Skin’ from ’99), most recent album ‘SoundScraper’ already dates from ’06 - the same year that Praga played their last outdoor festivals.
In the meantime, Maurice Engelen has been in the studio recording a brand new album that is to be released at the end of the year. So that's three lots of good new for the fans: Praga Khan is back with a vengeance, marks their 25th anniversary with a set full of greatest hits (‘Lonely’, ‘Breakfast In Vegas’, ‘Power of the Flower’, ‘Glamour Girl’,...) and presents a new album to top it all off. We're telling you: this must be celebrated!
