Branko is known as co-founder of the mythical kuduru band Buraka Som Sistema, but he is also a visionary musician, producer, DJ, promoter and the brains behind the Portuguese Enchufada label. With this label he wants to enrich the electronic music scene by bringing sounds from the diaspora and rhythms of the South to the forefront, inspired by the distinct blend of cultures, sights and sounds that make their hometown of Lisbon so unique. With this label, Branko (aka João Barbosa), succeeds in taking the sound of the hybrid Portuguese underground electronica and club music - mutations of kuduro, kizomba, Zouk, baile funk and more to the next level for a wide audience.
His recently released fourth solo album 'Soma' is the remarkable result of a three-day jam session, in which Branko challenged a challenging variety of Lisbon based musicians to improvise within a rhythmic framework. Hours of non-stop recording led to a collection of grooves that served as a beat print for the album, that he will present on the stage of ABClub. Standing still will not be an option.
