Attention : découverte ! Fin de l'année derniÚre, elle avait encore joué dans un ABClub bondé. Plein d'enthousiasme, De Morgen écrivait alors : « I Blame Coco assure pour ses premiers pas à l'AB-Club ***... de l'électro pop éclatante... les chansons ne manquent pas d'atours, elles comprennent toutes des refrains qui vous restent en mémoire dÚs la premiÚre écoute et elles tiennent également parfaitement la route sur scÚne. Elle a regardé le public droit dans les yeux et dégageait nettement plus d'assurance que la plupart des filles de son ùge....Pour ce qui est des talents d'écriture ... elle dispose de suffisamment d'atouts pour aller loin. Son premier CD et ce court passage à l' Ancienne Belgique en sont les meilleurs témoins. Coco ne sera bientÎt plus synonyme de Chanel. »
Et nous ajouterons à cela ce que nous disions déjà à l'époque :
'Self Machine', c'est le titre de l'irrĂ©sistible single de cette toute jeune et talentueuse chanteuse britannique. I Blame Coco est le nom quâelle a choisi de donner Ă son projet. Quant Ă la demoiselle, elle s'appelle, en rĂ©alitĂ©, Eliot Paulina Sumner, dite « Coco ». Elle a tout juste vingt ans et n'est autre que la fille de Sting. Sa musique nâa pourtant rien Ă voir avec celle de son illustre paternel : elle sonne plus jeune, plus folle, plus « monolithic, ethereal & robust ». Car pour ses dĂ©buts chez Universal avec l'album 'The Constant', Coco a essentiellement travaillĂ© avec la SuĂ©doise Robyn qui nous vaut ce son Ă©nergique avec une touche rĂ©tro juste comme il faut.
Bien quâelle frĂ©quente Ian Brown, Pete Dougherty, Alex Turner et soit fan des Killers, Coco s'est aussi, de toute Ă©vidence, entichĂ©e d'icĂŽnes eighties comme Duran Duran et Psychedelic Furs. Sa mĂ©thode pour composer des tubes en puissance est pour le moins singuliĂšre. Elle planche apparemment, depuis ses 15 ans, sur les titres de ' The Constant' mais ne s'est dĂ©tournĂ©e, que rĂ©cemment, du reggae et des accents ska (l'influence de son pĂšre ?). L'intervention de Robyn n'y est, bien entendu, pas Ă©trangĂšre (on notera qu'il est d'ailleurs conseillĂ© d'Ă©crire I Blame Coco avec un « ° » sur le « a » de blame).
Tout va donc trĂšs vite pour la belle Coco. Fin novembre, elle Ă©tait encore au Club ! Et fin mars, ce sera Ă l'ABBox !
La premiÚre partie sera assurée par la trÚs recommandable Washington. De son vrai nom Megan Washington, cette Australienne excelle aussi bien en solo qu'aux cÎtés de Ben Lee, qu'elle a accompagné par le passé, et se révÚle tout aussi brillante avec un ensemble à cordes, comme dans le cadre du YouTube Play organisé au musée Guggenheim ! AprÚs quelques EP, dont l'exquis 'How To Tame Lions', elle a enfin sorti, en 2010, son premier véritable album intitulé 'I Believe You Liar' (toujours chez Universal) et au printemps, elle aura l'occasion de tourner avec I Blame Coco !
