Tantôt mégalomane pompeux, tantôt intimiste et fragile, c’est Daan dans toute sa splendeur. De 'Housewife' à 'The Player' en passant par 'Swedish Designer Drugs' ou 'Victory’, on avait pris l’habitude de l’entendre combiner textes cyniques et électro branchée dancefloor. Toujours sous forme de variante musicale du surréalisme belge.
Son dernier album en date, 'Manhay', dont est tiré le tube 'Exes', opère un revirement radical en matière de sons. Entièrement joué live (plus de synthés, ni de beats), ce nouvel opus propose une musique impétueuse et sensible où le chant ténébreux de Daan est mis à l’honneur. Accompagné par un énergique groupe de six musiciens très seventies, Daan, plus introspectif que jamais, offre une version en noir et blanc de son univers contextuel. Il amorce un retour aux origines, sans toutefois perdre sa patte cynique caractéristique. Back to basics, en quelques sorte.
