The official foundation stone of the renovated AB Steenstraat has been laid. This renovation of the Steenstraat enables AB to continue to transform from a concert venue to an open music house.
The complete reorganisation and redesign of the buildings should ensure better interaction with the public and that there is always something going on in AB at any time of the day.
The thorough renovation of the AB buildings in the Steenstraat is a significant cornerstone of this intended metamorphosis. The conversion will create a new space which AB intends to use for accessible (daytime) activities such as workshops, DJ battles for young people, talks on trending topics, (music) book presentations, live acoustic sets and residencies for young musical talent etc.
The accessibility of the main hall will also be thoroughly improved, with an adapted lift, extra sanitary facilities for people with disabilities and a renovated AB café with a roof terrace. The latter is intended to become a local hotspot with a panoramic view of the city centre.
The work should be completed by the end of 2025. The financing and supervision of the construction project are taken care of by the Flemish Community via the Department of Culture, Youth and Media.
