The corona crisis has hit hard, even at your beloved concert venue. We currently find ourself in dire financial straits and have little perspective for the time being. Despite this setback, we at AB want to continue to do what makes our heart beat; support young talent and under-privileged music lovers. To ensure that even less fortunate audiences can continue to enjoy live music and that young talent also get every possible opportunity, 'The Friends of AB fund' is set up with the support of the King Baudouin Foundation.
“The COVID-19 crisis has only widened the gap between rich and poor in our country. When we are once again able to enjoy live music together, the most vulnerable populations in our society will find it even more difficulty to afford a ticket. Yet -as we have also learned- we all have a deep human need to come together for cultural events. ‘The Friends of AB Fund’ aims to lower the financial hurdle for those less-fortunate groups. This is an appeal for solidarity directed at everyone. “ says Tom Bonte, General Director of AB.
Through reduced rates and accessible activities, AB wants to make sure that disadvantaged people and those in poverty can enjoy live concerts too, after the lockdown. What’s more, with the establishment of this new fund, AB wants to continue to support artists who are still in the early stages of their career. Here, we mainly think about providing residencies, support-acts, and personal guidance.
“Young talent always needs a warm nest. A nest where it can grow and become headstrong and develop into unruly adolescence. AB wants to offer that warm nest and thus contribute to our future cultural heritage.” (Kurt Overbergh, Artistic Director of AB)
