They did it again! During the Ascension weekend weekend, 20 national AB teams tore through the countryside. There was also an international AB team that departed from Nancy and arrived in Mechelen right on time on Sunday. Impressive.
Thanks to your generous donations and the money collected by the cyclists themselves, all our participants were able to start.
Here are some facts and figures about the 2024 edition:
- There were 74 cyclists in our national teams, of whom 22 were women – an upwards trend. This is a shout-out to all women to come and join us next year!
- Our international team consisted of 9 men and 1 woman.
- Our youngest cyclist was Niels Van Himst (23). Yes, that Van Himst; the son of legendary Red Devil and footballing superstar Paul.
- Our oldest cyclist was Willy Vekemans (79), winner of Omloop Het Volk in 1967 and of Gent-Wevelgem in 1968.
- 2 cyclists from our team unfortunately had to quit due to a nasty crash on day 2.
- 2025’s 1000km of KOTK will take place from Thursday 29 May to Sunday 1 June.
- Our heavy lifters Eric Meersmans and Bruno Vandaele took part once again. Love you guys!
- Tom Bonte (AB’s General Director) also took part, and now he’s definitely going to buy a bike for next year’s challenge.
- More than € 200,000 was raised
A thousand heartfelt thanks to everyone who was directly or indirectly involved with this amazing event. See you again next year!
(On 1 June, the Solidarity Ticket will go back to being AB’s charitable cause for a 6-month period.)
