STUFF. is. doing. well. It’s already from 2014 ago that STUFF. was housed in AB as Artist in Residence. It seems like yesterday, but quite a lot has happened for the band in the meantime – a lot of STUFF.! We spoke to them about the past, present and near future… as they will at long last be taking over stage of AB once again on 27/4 at the GONDWANA 10 festival night. A concise (from 2017 on) overview with STUFF. about STUFF. .
We released Old Dreams New Planets in 2017, followed by a number of legendary shows at the likes of Pukkelpop, Best Kept Secret, Gent Jazz. It was in 2017 that we started talking with Gondwana, with whom we already had good contact. They really wanted to work with STUFF. and at the end of 2018 they re-released our album. In the autumn of 2017 there was STUFF. plays Howard Shore at the request of Film Fest Gent. We toured England and there were shows in The Netherlands. In May 2018 there was the unique STUFF. Invites, in collaboration with AB and Fuse. It was the first time that live bands performed in Fuse, an exceptional experience! In the autumn of 2018 there was the tribute for Marc Moulin to mark the 10th anniversary of his passing. We were invited to Le Guess Who by Shabaka Hutchings, who was one of the curators of the festival. He’s a big fan of ours and we’re really thrilled about that. It was in 2018 that Gondwana had been around for 10 years and to mark that occasion there was the Gondwana 10, a mini-festival with which we have already appeared in the Roundhouse (London), a spectacular venue to be able to headline.
Founded in 2008, by Manchester-based trumpeter, composer and producer Matthew Halsall, Gondwana Records, turned 10 last year. Originally founded to shine a light on the Manchester scene, Gondwana Records is one of the UKs most influential jazz (and beyond) record labels, launching GoGo Penguin on the world and now home to an international roster featuring artists from as far afield as Los Angeles and Melbourne, Australia.
So, to celebrate Gondwana’s 10th birthday, we’ll soon be partying in AB. It will be a mini-festival with:
