JES Brussels, together with an ambitious group of young Brussels artists, will set the Beursschouwburg and Ancienne Belgique aflame on 6/11. It's time to blow you away with an evening full of music, rap, dance, theatre, DJs, poetry and visual art.
This is the third BIG in BXL festival, a very welcome event after some heavy times for young Brussels artists, where it was difficult to get together and create. After the festival was cancelled in 2020 by the umpteenth lockdown, JES, AB and Beursschouwburg got together in early 2021 to bring about some change in that situation.
A group of young artists consisting of alumni from previous editions of BIG in BXL and young artists connected to the youth culture work of JES Brussel were invited to work at AB for a week in April in order to fill an hour long livestream on Friday with the exciting results of their creations.

For this edition, the artists were asked if they would like to invite fellow artists for the second residency in August '21 at the Beursschouwburg, where they took on more of an organising and coaching role. Many of them responded to this proposal enthusiastically. There was intensive interaction between the artists in both residencies, surprising results came about from the unexpected collaborations.
We asked a handful of the artists which talents they present at BIG in BXL and what their hopes are for the night of the festival.
Naast mijn studies, houd ik me nu al een aantal jaar bezig met fotografie. Op Big in BXL ga ik mijn nieuwste werk tentoonstellen. Ik vind het een heel cool project en wil graag mijn werk aan een publiek tonen en inspireren met mijn werkwijze. Ik hoop dat deze ervaring me vooruit kan helpen en me in contact kan brengen met toffe mensen.
Van kleins af aan wilde ik al zanger zijn, ik zing eigenlijk al langer dan ik spreek. Nu ik mijn kans krijg om mijn passie en werk te delen, grijp ik die! Ik maak pop en R&B muziek sinds 2016 en in AB ga ik mijn meest recente release performen. Op een podium staan lijkt me ongelooflijk, ik wilde eigenlijk in 2020 al optreden, maar door COVID-19 ging dat niet. Sinds de maatregelen versoepeld zijn, doe ik er alles aan om mijn droom te vervullen.

Cette année, je ne présente pas mon propre travail, mais j’ai la chance de faire partie de l’équipe de BIG in BXL, et pour cette nouvelle édition, nous travaillons avec de nouvelles artistes, cela m’apprend énormément. Je veux connaître les coulisses, le processus de travail en amont, ça m’intéresse beaucoup de voir ça. Cela me fera gagner une bonne expérience pour mes futurs événements que j’organiserai moi-même. Je m’appelle Rachad, mon nom d’artiste est Némésis et je suis un artiste visuel.
À Big in BXL, je présenterai une vidéo et un discours en direct. Je participe au festival pour avoir plus d’expérience, gagner en notoriété et bien sûr pour le plaisir.
Au festival, je présenterai des peintures d’inspiration expressionniste. Chaque tableau a un message. Certains sont plus évidents que d’autres.
Je participe au festival depuis 2019, l’expérience m’a beaucoup apporté. J’ai compris que j’étais capable. Capable d’être courageuse, d’être polyvalente, d’oser, de me confronter au monde de l’art. Cette année, j’étais plus présente dans la programmation. Une autre facette super enrichissante du festival. J’ai recherché des talents bruxellois (parfois bien cachés) pour enrichir le festival de nouveaux visages et de nouvelles visions. J’ai hâte que vous les rencontriez !
J’ai un petit set de 10-15 minutes et je vais en profiter pour essayer de mettre le plus d’ambiance possible et essayer de mettre tout le monde de bonne humeur. J’ai pu participer à la résidence “Big In BXL” en août et je dois dire que je suis tombé amoureux des personnes que j’ai pu y rencontrer. J’ai un sentiment d’euphorie qui me remplit de joie à chaque fois que j’entends le mot “JES” car il me rappelle toutes ces personnes différentes. C’est devenu comme une grande famille pour moi et à chaque fois que nous nous rencontrons, je me sens chez moi.
