On Wednesday 19 September, in Brussels’ Church of Saint John the Baptist at the Béguinage (Begijnhofkerk), AB presents a tribute to Jóhann Jóhannsson ,  the acclaimed Icelandic (film)composer who passed away suddenly earlier this year. This will be a unique evening, one which AB and many of those around Jóhannsson have worked on with much regard for the artist. Why unique?

1.       Jóhann Jóhannsson would have turned 49 on 19 September.

2.      The idea for this concert came about on the day of Jóhannsson’s passing, between Kurt Overbergh, artistic director of AB, and Adam Wiltzie (A Winged Victory for the Sullen, Stars of the Lid). Kurt also wrote these words at the time, in honour of the artist.

3.      On the programme: an entire performance of Jóhannsson’s second album ‘Virðulegu Forsetar’ (2004) that has previously only been performed live twice.

4.      Adam Wiltzie (electro/organ) assembled the line-up and got Skúli Sverrisson (bass/electro) and conductor Guðni Franzson on board. They are also to be heard on ‘Virðulegu Forsetar’.

5.      The 11-member Belgian ensemble Belgian Brass, who had already been invited by Jóhannsson in the past, was chosen to provide the horns.

6.      The church’s organ player will also be involved in the performance.

7.       Mike Harding (founding father of Jóhannsson’s label Touch) will provide the soundtrack for the evening.
