Congratulations Bajeer, Bianca Steck, Dushime, epona, Oriana Ikomo & Sarah Espour!
More than 1100 artists – more than have ever signed up for a music competition at national level before! – had a go at Sound Track, a massive collaboration between VI.BE and the entire live music sector, and so much more than a music competition.
The professional jury selected a total of 136 artists from all of the entries, who will have the opportunity during the preliminary rounds to prove live that they are the sound of tomorrow.
Sixteen Brussels artists gave it their all and the audience had an incredible time. Selecting the finalists was extremely difficult, but the professional jury eventually selected these six artists for the Brussels final on 9 December in Ancienne Belgique: Bajeer, Bianca Steck, Dushime, epona, Oriana Ikomo & Sarah Espour!
Over the last two weekends of September, the Alleman (Oudergem/Auderghem), De Branding (Jette), De Kuub (Sint-Agatha-Berchem/Berchem-Sainte-Agathe) and ’t Mutske (Laken/Laeken) youth centres hosted the preliminary rounds of Brussels Sound Track. The audiences came in droves to support tomorrow’s Brussels talent in their favourite youth centres. As well as the fantastic atmosphere and the unbridled enthusiasm of the audiences, the variety among the acts was particularly noticeable: from energetic hip-hop, soulful singer-songwriters and atmospheric ambient to energetic punk and plucky solo acts, there was something for everyone. Making the selection was no easy task for the music professionals on the jury. But here they are: Bajeer, Bianca Steck, Dushime, epona, Oriana Ikomo & Sarah Espour will compete for the
title at the Brussels final at Ancienne Belgique on Saturday 9 December as well as for the chance to follow in the footsteps of previous Sound Track winners like ADJA, Indigo Mango and Ysmé.
So what’s next? A total of 46 finalists gave it their best shot on the six regional finals (in West Flanders, East Flanders, Limburg, Flemish Brabant, Antwerp and Brussels). The professional jury listen and pass judgement, although this year the audience also has a say: thanks to Lotto there’s an audience prize once again. Lotto is awarding a cheque for 1,000 euros to the audience’s favourite artist on the night in each region. The 18 winners selected by the professional jury will embark on a tailor-made pathway after winning: a year of personal guidance, coaching and support from the wider music sector, residencies in music clubs, support from graphic artists and photographers, recording time in professional studios, national exposure, showcases and shows in other countries and much more awaits them. They will all be given the opportunity to develop at their own pace.
