For the first time in its history, AB presents ‘Chou’ by Chassol in the De Munt / La Monnaie opera house.
Throughout its history of more than forty years, AB has collaborated with almost every venue in Brussels. For example, in recent years AB has presented or co-presented concerts in Bozar (from Sufjan Stevens and Joanna Newsom to, more recently, Christian Löffler), Koninklijk Circus (from Bill Callahan and Low to Daniel Norgren), Botanique (the renowned exchange project AB-Bota), Recyclart (Thurston Moore), Beursschouwburg (Mykki Blanco), Muziekpublique (Saz’io) and Bonnefooi (from Moor Mother to Les Filles De Illighidad). However, never in its history has it presented a show in – to give De Munt its official name – De Koninklijke Muntschouwburg.
The reason for this is the collaboration between AB and kunstenfestivaldesarts. During the pandemic, the two organisations joined forces and committed to presenting a single unique creation every year. Parisian Christophe Chassol – no stranger to AB after numerous appearances since 2015 – was commissioned in 2021 to work around Brussels and more specifically the 100 (!) languages spoken in Brussels. To this end, Chassol lived a while in Brussels in 2021 to work on this creation in residency behind the scenes at AB. The results were his renowned ‘ultrascores’. The pre-productions and recordings took place not only in AB but also in two other iconic locations: L’Archiduc and De Munt/La Monnaie.
The logical next step is therefore to present this unique creation in the place it originated. And so, Chassol’s ‘Chou’ can be seen in the following locations:
Sunday 15 May > AB Theater > 8 pm
Monday 16 May > De Munt / La Monnaie > 8 pm
Tuesday 17 May > L’Archiduc > 10 pm (sold out)
