No AB without Belgian musicians! To honour that, we highlight our beloved Belgian artists a little extra during Belgian Music Week. Celebrate with us, from 22 to 28 January.
On the programme: unique archive footage, documentaries, livestreams, talks, stories, TikToks and (of course) homegrown live concerts. On the first day of Belgian Music Week, the Belgian Worldwide Music Network organises its annual showcases. A free introduction to a fine selection of current local "worldwide" acts: 4 bands selected by an external jury. You will also discover the winners of the first Belgian Worldwide Music Awards!
On 23/01, in AB Club: AB, VI.BE and Cassette for Timescapes will screen an episode about parenthood in which artist Charlotte Adigéry is the central figure. Her pregnancy couldn’t have been more poorly timed. Desperately searching for other role models in the music industry, she began a tour of Great Britain with her baby along.
But is there a “right” moment to start having children? Does the choice to have kids always have to feel like giving up career options? After the screening there will be an interactive panel discussion that you can follow live on ABTV.
On January 24: jazz with Vitja Pauwels. He put his band together during a residency in late 2022. Early Life Forms consists of Vitja, Frederic Leroux, Casper Van De Velde and Laurens Dierickx. Musically, they dance on the common ground between Latin jazz, grooving rock and filmic explorations. Still some tickets on sale!
We celebrate the weekend with the Flanders Folk Awards, also to be seen in full via ABtv. Flanders is bursting with folk talent and that’s what Flanders Folk Network wants to make known to the general public and the (inter)national music sector. With the fourth edition of the Flanders Folk Awards, we focus on artists with potential within the international trad and folk scene. Aside from the presentation of these awards, there will also be excellent bands on stage.
The week is rounded off in style. Black Box Revelation will play an exclusive concert in a sold-out AB Club. In AB Theatre, there will be a Cinemaximiliaan Silent films concert: 'Behind me I cast all my scares' is on the programme. 7 silent films accompanied by a live band with original compositions.
Cinemaximiliaan is a Brussels platform for and by newcomers, that combines films and music from a unique worldly perspective. East meets West. Come see!
Be sure to keep an eye out, as we are very proud to share our love of our Belgian musicians with you!
