Wooden Wand's Wonderful World of outsider blues/freak folk
Wooden Wand – once supported by The Vanishing Voice – is the project of headstrong singer songwriter James Jackson Toth. His musical pallet can, quite definitely, be called 'broad'. It so happens that Toth deals in outsider blues, freak folk, country and, essentially, the experienced craftsmanship of a classy singer songwriter.
Influential music-blog Pitchfork on his latest album: “Like the finest work of Phosphorescent, ‘Blood Oaths of the New Blues’ recasts songs that could have come from country music or the blues or Bob Dylan in an intricate Americana gloaming. At last, Toth treats the words and the arrangements with the same ingenuity and devotion, arriving at the most accessible and narcotic record of his career.” It has been noted.
Wooden Wand will play a unique concert on Sunday 21 April in Huis23.
Admittance is free of charge but you have to register via reservationshuis23@abconcerts.be (making mention of ‘wooden’).
