VK presents at ABClub : WOLF PARADE + SOON

The guys from Wolf Parade come from Montreal, Canada. As coincidence would have it, that’s also the city where the great Arcade Fire are from. The hype around the band is no coincidence. They were soon signed by the famous Sub Pop label (known from the likes of Foals, CSS, Fleet Foxes) and released their debut in 2005. The title of that album ‘Apologies to the Queen Mary’ was no accident either, as just prior to that they’d gone off hard in the Queen Mary Hotel and trashed it pretty badly. Their new record ‘At mount Zoomer’ landed in stores a few months ago. Half of it was recorded in the church-converted-to-studio Petite Église (where Arcade Fire put together ‘Neon Bible’) and with the deliberate intention not to work on ‘singles’. To promote their latest album full of idiosyncratic indie-rock there will be a long awaited European.

The fantastic live band Soon just launched their new CD ‘As Of Yet’ in a full to bursting Trix in Antwerp. A fine CD, by the way, that stands midway between emo, wave and blackened Brit-pop à la Bloc Party. Single ‘Black Cats’ is a brilliant example.
