New Belgian indie queen makes furor worldwide!
“Belgian artist Tsar B’s debut single makes an ominous entrance, with its churning R&B beats, pitched- down effects and sighing vocals that curl around the track like sweet pipe smoke.” (The Fader)
"Her dark-blue oriental R&B feels almost androgynous in places and recalls fragments of some of alternative pop's most daring artists: FKA twigs, Beyonce, and Banks.” (Noisey UK)
"This girl is from Belgium. This one's called Escalate. Very, very good. Definitely Björk tones to that voice. Currently unsigned, but I don't think that's gonna last long.” (ANNIE MAC – BBC RADIO)
Few debuting artists can cash in on as much overseas praise as Justine Bourgeus, or Tsar B, with her first issue ‘Escalate’. That perfectly orchestrated buzz around B is partly created by manager Jarri Van der Haegen, founder of the most influential Belgian music blog Disco Naïveté, that helped put the likes of Lana Del Rey and Hozier on the digital map. Just after the turn of the year, Focus Knack crowned her as “new Belgian indie queen” and she adorned the top of every national ‘to keep an eye on in ‘16’ chart – such as that of De Morgen: “Kronkelende oriëntaalse r&b, verwrongen beats, dreigende atmosferische synths en elastische bassen.”
