The Twilight Singers are back with a bang. ‘Dynamite Steps’ is their first album in five years and is the glorious successor to ‘Powder Burns’. The album is the return to great form of Greg Dulli as songsmith and is a mix of soul and drama driven by dynamic guitars. The release date is thus also symbolically 14 February, the day that recognizes love in all its forms (and often transformations). Aside from love, ‘Dynamite Steps’ also addresses other existential issues, such as death. Dulli called in the assistance of Ani DiFranco, Joseph Arthur and of course his Gutter Twins companion Mark Lanegan for the the recordings in New Orleans, Los Angeles and the desolate Joshua Tree.
Frontman Greg Dulli is still known here as the only soul diva with rock 'n' roll allures and as ex-frontman of the now legendary The Afghan Whigs (who reached their peak with the album 'Gentlemen'). Since the beginning of this century already, his latest reincarnation has been known as The Twilight Singers. The content of previous album 'Powder Burns' was established around the man's rehab period.
