Noctourniquet explores new avenues... surprise, surprise!
The sixth studio album by American band The Mars Volta was released just recently under the title ‘Noctourniquet’. The thirteen song long album, written by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala, was produced by Rodriguez-Lopez and on it they explore musical areas they'd not previously set foot upon in the past twenty years. The daring diversity of the new material makes the album one of the band's most refined achievements to date. Just as with previous The Mars Volta albums, the lyrics carry you away on a journey, one this time inspired by diverse elements such as UK alt-rockers The Godfathers from the ‘80's, Superman-comic arch-enemy Solomon Grundy and the Greek myth of Hyacinthus.
In the beginning there was At The Drive-In. A band that imploded on the eve of their big breakthrough. Then they were two: Sparta and The Mars Volta. The latter containing the curly-haired Omar Alfredo Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler Zavala. Their debut album 'Deloused In The Comatorium', produced by Rick Rubin, immediately made an impression. They played the AB in early 2003, during the Domino festival, and even then they were a revelation. Later there were the albums 'Frances The Mute', ‘Amputechture’, ‘The Bedlam in Goliath’ and ‘Octahedron’. At the time of ‘The Bedlam in Goliath’ they blew away an incited AB once again.
Same place, new date, Tuesday 26 June.
Support-act will a power punk trio answering to the name Le Butcherettes. Leading frontlady is Mexico's Teri ‘Gender Bender’ Suarez who is often compared to a young female version of Angus Young (AC/DC) and Iggy Pop.
