The Heavy, that is dirty northern soul and a big splash of garage-rock (think: The Sonics), which results in a juicy sound in the year 2009. The Heavy already drove the ABClub wild at the end of 2007, when we saw a band in top form that coupled the best of Led Zeppelin with soul and funk classics from the Stax and Motown catalogues. Or what they themselves describe as ‘ripping and chopping beats from the likes of Bo Diddley, Little Walter and The Parliaments and fusing them with their now patented brand of high grade dirt. Guitar riffs that intoxicate and bass lines that reverberate around your head like a King Jammy dream’. Now this four-member combo from the United Kingdom is back with a fierce single titled ‘Oh No Not You Again’ (with a splendid supporting role by Noisettes singer Shingai Shoniwa), that being the forerunner for a new album entitled ‘The House That Dirt Built’ (out on Counter/Ninja Tune/PIAS in September).
