'Thanks for the music! If you have any new songs I would love to hear them.' (Devendra Banhart in a letter to Bram Vanparys)
Watch the AB Session of The Bony King of Nowhere here.
The Belgian debut of '09 already belongs toThe Bony King of Nowhere. A remarkable amount has been written about singer Bram Vanparys in the past, just based upon one single demo (see: Le Soir, De Morgen, Les Inrockuptibles,…). That has a lot to do with the unique vocal quality of this man from Gent. Listen to his tracks on www.myspace.com/thebonyking and set them immediately on endless repeat due to their hair-raising beauty. The mood immediately reminds one of the world of Devendra Banhart and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. Our favourite Vanparys quote (in De Morgen): 'It doesn't matter how many opportunities arise: what counts is the moment that you grasp them.' (about the sudden attention that's fallen upon him). We've already been able to hear his debut 'Alas My Love' (in a sober production recorded in the home of An Pierlé and Koen Gisen) and repeat: "The Belgian debut of '09 already belongs to THE BONY KING OF NOWHERE". Live too – as witnessed at his latest visit to De Nachten - the Bony King has grown remarkably (that double bass!). Finally, for those wondering where the band name comes from: double check the subtitle of the Radiohead song ‘There There’.
