Refined singer-songwriter class from local soil.
“The Bony King of Nowhere goes right to the bone.” “****”
(De Morgen on TBKON & friends)
“Those who were charmed in August by the man's superb visit to Pukkelpop, can't go wrong here.”
(Humo on the latest album)
For those who didn't realise: Bram Vanparys is one of our country's ‘Musical Greats’. The umpteenth piece of evidence: ‘The Bony King Of Nowhere’ or: his latest – now third – untitled album, one that hits the nail on the head, again. Read: the utmost level of refined class. Bram Vanparys' unique voice is still memorable and, in this cast (his latest album is basically a solo album), it grabs you even harder.
The Bony King basically makes simple songs. But with maximal effect. Heartbreaking, we read somewhere. Or also: “Those who close their eyes can hear Jeff Buckley through the breakers.” (Humo). The most optimistic quote we recently read about The Bony King:“The Sint-Pieters Square calls one day…” Great words. For the moment, we offer you – if we may – a concert in the not-too-bad AB.
We open in style with Douglas Firs. Call it: the alter ego of Gertjan Van Hellemont, often seen standing on the side as guitarist for – well what do you know - The Bony King of Nowhere. His like-minded musical friends listen to names like Neil Young, James Taylor and Bob Dylan. His debut album ‘Shimmer & Glow’ got a lending hand from (former) members of Admiral Freebee and Balthazar, and others.
The Belgian press on the subject:
“As far as we are concerned, this goes right to the top of Belgian indie.” (Radio 1)
“A brilliant debut. Will leave no one untouched.” (Cobra.be)
“Douglas Firs is the Belgian Ryan Adams.” (RifRaf)
