Is the ukulele making a comeback? If Dent from Mississippi has his say then it certainly is. Absolutely be sure to listen to his pop-gem and debut 'The Good Music Of Dent May & His...', which – as far as we're concerned – is certainly one of the pop albums of '09. That the album was released this year on Paw Tracks – the label of AB-favourites Animal Collective, who broke through on a wider scale this year – cranks up a lot of extra attention, of course. Stop! Do we hear right? Dent May’s voice sounds quite a lot like that of Morrissey in the early Smiths period. Indeed! Which just increases the addictiveness… Dent May is also quite a busy bee. Under the moniker Dent Sweat he makes dance music and his country side outs itself in the band Cowboy Maloney's Electric City. He is also a part of artist collective Cats Purring. Also: you can always recognise Dent by his far-too-large, somewhat goody-goody, glasses! Does anyone happen to have a pair of Theo-glasses on loan?

9:45 pm - THE BONY KING OF NOWHERE (b)
The Belgian debut of '09 was undoubtedly that of The Bony King of Nowhere. ‘Alas My Love’ (soberly produced, recorded at the home of An Pierlé and Koen Gisen) was overloaded with superlatives earlier this year. Even on the basis of only one demo, The Bony King already had the (foreign) media on their side. Of course that has a lot to do with this guy from Ghent's unique vocal sound. The mood immediately reminds one of the world of Devendra Banhart and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, but Radiohead is never far away either. It isn't without reason that the band's name hails from a Thom Yorke song (check out the subtitle of the Radiohead track ‘There There’ from ‘Hail To The Thief’). Live too, The Bony King has grown strongly over the years (that contrabass!). They were already present at the Feeërieën in '07, now more than deservedly totally back again. The Warande Park at dusk is a completely appropriate environment for them.
