“An early contender for pop record of 2013.” (NME)
“Good tunes that come replete with more than enough hooks to keep everyone happy.” (Mojo)
“Not what we expected from Tegan and Sara, but its certainly not a bad evolution. A very good pop album.” (Cutting Edge)
Canada's identical Quin twins, Tegan And Sara, promptly turn toward synth-pop on their seventh studio album ‘Heartthrob', following in the footsteps of fellow countrymen Metric. With the assistance of producers Greg Kurstin (P!nk, Lily Allen, Santigold) and Mike Elizondo (Regina Spektor, Nelly Furtado, Eminem), the harmonious folk-rock the two have been dealing in since breakthrough single ‘Walking With A Ghost’ is alternated with catchy danceable pop, without losing depth.
“Kurstin took everything we do and put it on steroids” that's how the sisters describe the collaboration and that's how advance single ‘Closer’ also sounds: vintage Tegan And Sara harmonies finished with a pumping beat and driving synth parts, ready to get a party started.
In ’09, the twins played a much enjoyed AB Flex concert and after a series as support to The Killers and The Black Keys, Tegan And Sara will be back where they belong at the end of ‘12: on the holy ground of Brussels and right at the top of the bill.
Waxahatchee
Waxahatchee! Cheers Katie Crutchfield! Best New Music and 8,3 on the Pitchfork report. Lo-fi guitar-pop with a twist, straight from the heart and a bedroom in Alabama, and burnt onto second longplayer ‘Cerulean Salt’.
She shares her label, punk rock specialized Don Giovanni Records, with bands like Nuclear Santa Claust, Pregnant, and Screaming Females (those band names probably have something to do with each other) and in June she's out on the road with the sisters Tegan And Sara.
Not to be underestimated, that female force in AB!
