Norwegian siren graciously covers Joy Divison & Dolly Parton
“Susanna’s voice takes your breath away.”
(The Observer)
“Her voice is extraordinary.”
(Mojo)
Norwegian siren Susanna - or Susanna Wallumrød to the Registry of Births, Deaths & Mariages - is frontlady and instigator of Susanna & The Magical Orchestra. But she also creates beautiful things under her own name. Her entire oeuvre now fills eight albums, all affiliated with the most impressive Norwegian record label in years: Rune Grammofon.
Her assets are her unadulterated and almost awe-inspiring voice, just like her interpretations of iconic songs by the likes of Joy Division (‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’), Dolly Parton (‘Jolene’), Black Sabbath, Lou Reed or Abba. All are completely reconstructed cover versions, bathing in the now recognizable minimal Susanna-sound.
She's touring for her latest album ‘Wild Dog’, one full of her own songs. What's more, she received assistance from members of the likes of Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and Arcade Fire. As usual, hubby Helge Sten (see too: Deathprod and Supersilent and also production work for Motorpsycho) provided – according to the liner notes – ‘space and beyond’ and will also accompany her live.
