De Waarnemer (The Observer)
STIJN MEURIS gives you a damn good story.
It doesn't always have to be music. Very often it is, but not always.
Sometimes it may be a story. With images that take your breath away at the most unexpected moments. Because if there is no image, then it doesn't exist. Or does it?
Monza-man Stijn Meuris is, aside from singer/songwriter, also director (see the likes of 'Week Van Liefde' with Wim Opbrouck and a heap of other things for Canvas), and furthermore he writes. Short stories, narratives, columns, and at the moment also a first scenario.
Time to combine a few of these elements. In 'De Waarnemer', a solo-performance in which, for an hour and a half, Meuris takes the audience along in anecdotes and illustrative fragments that might possibly be real. But equally possibly not be. Everything depends on how you look at it.
After all Stijn Meuris sees 'observation' as his only real job. He looks at things differently than other people, and describes that observation with wonder and often with humour. A purebred storyteller, who in 'De Waarnemer' takes a deliciously free rein with fact and fiction, moreover accompanied by remarkable video images.
He presents, as it where, fairytales for adults, things in which we'd like to believe. You could call it Spoken word, but equally well theatre-with-image, or a narrative with barbs. Whatever it is, Stijn Meuris gives you a damn good story!
