Spot on Denmark IV feat. Efterklang + The Kissaway Trail + Cody + Chimes & Bells
SPOT ON DENMARK (which has received the logical title SPOT ON DENMARK IV) is, for the fourth year in a row, presented by AB in collaboration with ROSA (The Danish Rock Council), the SPOT festival and MXD (Music Export Denmark). As ever, Spot On Denmark still presents (in one evening) promising Danish acts that appeared earlier this year at the showcase festival SPOT in Aarhus and were selected by a jury of Belgian journalists, programmers and managers.
Previous guests have already been MURDER, FAGGET FAIRYS, I GOT YOU ON TAPE and SLARAFFENLAND. This year we move from the familiar ABClub to the ABBOX with a stunning headliner: EFTERKLANG. Also present:
7:00 pm - 7:35 pm Chimes & Bells
Chimes & Bells is the soulchild of 26-year-old singer/cellist/multi-instrumentalist Cæcilie Trier. Their music sways between noise rock, art pop, shoegazer and r&b. They've already opened for the famous Beach House. Their debut is soon to be released, immediately internationally too, on the famous Bella Union label (see: Fleet Foxes, The Low Anthem,…).
8:00 pm - 8:35 pm Cody
Cody can best be described as alt.-country and is based around singer Kaspar Kaae. This septet has already opened for Black Francis, The National, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Tindersticks. In '09, their debut ‘Songs’ was voted album of the year by no less than 3 national Danish newspapers. Their set at Spot could certainly be called impressive.
9:00 pm - 9:40 pm The Kissaway Trail
The Kissaway Trail sum up their greatest influences as Sonic Youth, Grandaddy, Daniel Johnston, Pixies and The Beach Boys. Their latest album ‘Sleep Mountain’ was already produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National) and released by the prestigious Bella Union label. NME rewarded them with a 8/10 and wrote: “the result is nothing short of stunning.”
10:00 pm - 11:15 pm Efterklang
An impressive headliner, Efterklang! This year at the Spot festival they played together with Slaraffenland in the situational project Slaraffenklang. Latest album ‘Magic Chairs’ is at once their breakthrough album to a wider audience. Focus Knack wrote: “What the likes of ‘White Blood Cells’ were for The White Stripes and ‘Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust’ for Sigur Rós, that is what Magic Chairs could well be for Efterklang: the definitive breakthrough to the mainstream and The Broader Public.” Not yet convinced? Then we'll call in De Morgen: “a wonderfully beautiful album.” Also BBC, who wrote: “A superb record from one of the world’s most uniquely-minded bands.”.
