Top improvisation collective presents new album
Nicolas Mortelmans is a Belgian sitar player who studied with the likes of Anoushka Shankar. In April 2024, he released his debut album MĀYĀ on W.E.R.F. records. He toured clubs nationally and internationally with that album and appeared at festivals like Gent Jazz and Sfinks Festival.
Nicolas will release his second album SPACE on Rotkat Records this autumn. For this release he dove into the studio with Roland van Campenhout, Stef Kamil Carlens, Tim Vanhamel and Simon Segers. The result of those musical encounters is a raw, spontaneous and honest album on which all the music is improvised.
With SPACE, Nicolas returns to his roots: he experiments with psychedelic rock, ambient, funk and jazz. The album will be officially launched at AB Club. With improvisation as the guiding theme, and with top musicians like Tim Vanhamel (guitar and electronica), Stef Kamil Carlens (bass), Simon Segers (drums) and the unique sitar style of Mortelmans himself, it promises to be an intense, meditative and explosive concert.
