“Highly inventive, original and compelling. Music for a new generation from a band with a committed and distinctive sound.” (Rough Trade)
American quartet Kneebody has been around for almost a quarter of a century now, and despite their obvious jazz-influenced approach, even jazz magazine Downbeat finds them - thankfully - difficult to categorise. ‘Kneebody has always been a difficult band to define. Traversing everything from grungy guitars to honking diaphragmatic horns, soulful vocals and intricate jazz-influenced melodies, it's the genre fluidity that makes the band such an engaging live act.’
Their releases have therefore appeared on such diverse quality labels as Winter & Winter (see also: Dave Douglas or Uri Caine) or Brainfeeder (for their collaboration with Daedalus), the label of electronica master Flying Lotus.
The acclaimed London record shop Rough Trade also drew praise: ‘Highly inventive, original and compelling. The music is adventurous, exuberant and powerful: music for a new generation, music that will inspire and excite, coming from a band with a committed and distinctive sound.’ Duly noted!
Their latest AB passage dates back to 2019 when their previous album Chapters saw the light of day. AB picks up the thread nicely with their latest follow-up: Reach.
