Süss-sauer Swiss chanteuse, sharp appetite for fine tunes!
Do you feel like a voice that really hits the spot? Between prominent and charming? Sate yourself on Sophie Hunger. This Swiss songstress sings in English, French, German and, if need be, a local language... But most of all: she sings! She wins over full venues, like the Orangerie, or diverse festivals like Les Ardentes, Montreux, De Nachten, Glastonbury... up to and including an extensive American tour last year too.
A fourth CD is now about to be released, following on from ‘Sketches On Sea’ ('07), ‘Monday’s Ghost’ ('08) and ‘1983’ (from 2010). In the meantime, Miss Hunger was also to be heard aside Stephan Eicher, Erik Truffaz, The Young Gods or Tinariwen. Nice names to drop but she obviously also struck a chord with others too, judging by the fact her YouTube version of ‘Le Vent Nous Portera’ has been viewed 500,000 times.
Also nice: even Eric Cantona has outed himself as a fan of 'la folk singer Sophie Hunger... une fille magique.' Or, of course, the following quote. Journalist asks: 'Who are you as a person?' Sophie Hunger answers: 'You mean, as opposed to me as an elephant?'
Yet another from Sophie Hunger Blues? 'I'll let you be part of my dream, if I can be part of yours' Bob Dylan said that. 'I'll let you be part of my dream, if I can be part of your reality' I said that.’
How dare she! Long live the daring (and the feeling!)
Support-act will be the marvellous local Blackie & The Oohoos. Alias the siren song of the Maieu sisters. Just finished their second CD 'Song For Two Sisters' on the Unday/NEWS label (see too: Yuko, Flying Horseman...). All produced by Pascal Deweze (see, or hear, too: Sukilove, The Van Jets, Creature With The Atom Brain...)
What more do we read on their site? 'A dark, irreal vibe brimming with concealed tension prevails on 'Song For Two Sisters'. We again hear the psychedelic dream-pop, the spooky folk of their debut, although the songs and lyrics now sound riper, more idiosyncratic and more refined. Beach House, Mazzy Star, David Lynch and Beth Gibbon may give you an idea, if needed.'
OoHoO°!
