Robin Verheyen (TaxiWars) presents his New York Quartet
Saxophonist Robin Verheyen is architect of the exciting TaxiWars project involving Tom Barman. In ’05 he headed to New York, the mecca of jazz and improvised music. For latest album ‘A Look Beyond (Cap-Vert Illuminations)’, he was inspired by his years of studying French composer Olivier Messiaen. But the many journeys to Senegal, where Verheyen dove deeply into traditional West-African rhythms, are also an unmistakable influence. As well as the improv-world in New York, that he knows inside out.
‘A Look Beyond’ was last year hailed by Klara as ‘Jazz Album of the Year’ and Jazzmoziëk praised the album with a ‘****’ review.
