8:45pm -Primus
'Too Many Puppiesâ! âJerry Was A Race Car Driverâ! âWynona's Big Brown Beaverâ! âMr. Knowitallâ! âTommy The Catâ! All hits by American trio Primus who where the rage in Europe as of â90 when their (studio) debut and instant classic âFrizzle Fryâ was released. That slapping bass of frontman Les Claypool and the completely absurd lyrics immediately stood out at the time that grunge reined supreme. In '97 Primus also wrote the South Park theme song (of which you really should pay good attention to the lyrics â read: backing vocals). After a total of 7 albums, Primus inserted a period of inactivity around '00. In â03 the band became active again and last year Primus sent out word that they want to conquer world once more with the original line-up. Their world tour begins this month in Australia, ends in Europe and will also stop at the AB. A rare thing really. Another small tip: on their site www.primusville.com you can already download a free EP (âJune 2010 Rehearsalâ) for a foretaste of the present PrimusâŚ
7:00pm - Hot Head Show
English trio that was described by fan Steward 'The Police' Copeland as "... intelligent and nutty music, between Les Claypool and Tom Waits." Coincidentally, Steward Copeland's son Jordan Copeland just happens to be singer/guitarist in Hot Head Show. Les Claypool from Primus himself regarding the band: "They are stupid, unclean, helpless geniuses". Their deubt should be out by the summer.
7:50pm - Devotchka
Not unfamiliar to AB â having already played here twice â and our man visiting the showcase festival SXSW in Texas noted the following... "A little later in the Moody Theatre we see Devotchka. Seeing as we have their new CD â100 Loversâ on repeat in our stereo we wanted to see them at work again. Again their infectious mix of folk, tex-mex and Slavic styles produced fireworks, this time flanked by 2 tightrope walkers who seemed to have walked right out of a Cirque du Soleil show."
