In 2009, a number of interesting labels from Brussels will receive extra attention on the stage of the ABClub. Aside from the previously announced Rat Records events (the label of versatile jazz musicians Teun Verbruggen and Bruno Vansina), on March 12 it's the right place for a dEPOT 214 label night and on March 19 for a Green l.f.ant label night.
Green l.f.ant is a label in the good hands of Eric and Anne-Lize. It accommodates bands like Superlux, Claudine Muno and Monsoon, and in the past it assisted like Satellite City, Triggerfinger and Mint out of the starting blocks. This evening they present 3 youthful acts:
Songstress Yoko Sound from Brussels comes to the AB with her new album ‘Not Enemy’. This debut received quite a lot of attention. So it was that she provided a handful of supports for British enfant terrible Tricky in the fall of 2008. Her mix of trip-hop, folk and electro reminds one of fine folk like Feist, Portishead and Hooverphonic. Especially her vocal timbre tends toward the latter. She will be assisted live by her producer, Arker.
Trio from Brussels, the dIPLOMAT (yup, lowercase d) - with a female bassist - plays melodious power-rock. Their musical career was rapidly launched after they won every prize at Verdur Rock (2007). To record their untitled debut, they crept into the studio with Luc van Acker (Arbeit Adelt!, Ministry) and Peter Crosbie.
Three years after the Pornorama debut, now the long awaited successor ‘Click Here’ is to be released. Just as the first album, it was produced by Sebastian Omerson and Stéphane Misseghers (dEUS). Their melodious, straight-forward rock reminds one of our very own Millonaire or rather the pop-rock version of Queens of the Stone Age. First single, ‘Boom Boom’ (did we hear a Fugazi-vibe there or not?) certainly makes us look forward to the rest of the record and also their show in the club.
