Relive Antony from the 'Am A Bird Now' days.
“Goosebumps. Chills.’’
(Focus Knack)
“Chills marching in column down your spine.”
(De Morgen)
There's not been a more breathtaking album released this year than 'Put Your Back N 2 It' by Perfume Genius. So the reviews weren't wrong. His concert in Brussels' Botanique was sold out in no time and the spot at Rock Werchter this summer is more than deserved. His musical legacy comprises ‘just’ one hour of phenomenal music. 'Put Your Back N 2 It' and his debut 'Learning' are each only a half hour long. His music sounds as minimal as he is frugal with his output. Mike Hadreas' penetrating voice and his piano form the basis. His songs are about porno, his sexual orientation, suicide attempts, near-death experiences and drugs. Pretty cheerful stuff. He touches us like we were touched by Antony Hegarty in his ‘I Am A Bird Now’ days. That's says something.
Support-act will be the kicking & screaming, Los Angeles residing quartet Indians. Their debut has been described by bestnewbands.com as “like listening to the offspring of a twisted triumvirate coalescence of David Byrne, David Bowie and Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day).” Quite a serious contrast to Perfume Genius.
