Patrick Watson, what a performer! Or in technical terms: adventurous soundscapes, pleasing prog-rock, songs with hooks, and an exuberant gang around him. On his website we'll have to make do with 'Wooden Arms is coming', but that is important info! There will finally be a new CD, via V2 Records! They'll finally be back live again in the AB, after that cheerfully full club in March last year! This time emphatically as band: Patrick Watson & The Wooden Arms!
Shall we just situate Mister Watson in a broader context? Effervescent art-rock! This Canadian singer-pianist (together with his usual quartet) makes very fine, exciting, artistic pieces of pop music. 'Just Another Ordinary Day' was the 2003 debut CD, followed by the ravishing 'Close To Paradise'. It contained references to Jeff Buckley and Sufjan Stevens (and, why not, Robert Wyatt or early Pink Floyd too?) Personally, he'd prefer to quote Debussy or Satie and, in-between, again take part in Cinematic Orchestra. Humo heard: ''*** acoustic ambient... creeps a little further under your skin with every listen... a dream album...' Télémoustique: ''*** a performer with a sensitive touch... one of those albums we love to carry in our ears at all times.'
That won't be any different with Wooden Arms either: to be embraced!
