Groundbreaking experimental guitarist presents her latest album at PILAR
Attention: this concert will take place at Pilar.
Since 2015, Nina Garcia has been exploring the boundaries of the electric guitar, balancing between improvisation and noise. With a minimalist setup—a guitar, a pedal, and an amplifier—she creates her own universe where power and fragility collide. Her immersive performances have already made an international impact.
After performing under the name Mariachi for ten years, Nina Garcia now unveils her unique musical approach on Bye Bye Bird, her first album under her own name, released by Ideologic Organ. The album has received high praise, with The Wire describing it as "one of the most closed circuit albums I’ve heard in a while. […] Her dexterity is clear in her deft pivots from the almost pastoral to clanging furnaces of caustic joy so intense Glenn Branca might have called in 60 strings minimum for the job. For Garcia, six is enough."
De Vlaamse Primitieven is the alter ego of the Antwerp guitarists Jan Boudart & Freek Vreys. After studying jazz guitar, they discovered a shared love for 60's psychedelia, ethnic drones, minimalism, and American 'primitive' guitar music from John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Glenn Jones, and others. They studied these masters and developed an obsession not only with keeping this beautiful tradition of guitar playing alive, but also with blending 'American primitivism' with British folk, jazz, drones, and other genres. They have played with Glenn Jones, Jon Collin, Chris Rainier, Hellvete, and toured with Liam Grant. At the end of the year, they will release their debut album "Lucht van een Andere Planeet" on Pang Pang Records & Carbon Records.
This is a Liveurope concert: the first pan-European initiative supporting concert venues in their efforts to promote emerging European music.
