Brussels label dEPOT 214 completely takes over AB Club!
In 2009 a young MY TV is DEAD debuted with ‘Freedomatic’ in the AB Club. Five years on, the band from Brussels – established by singer/guitarist Amaury Massion (Lylac) and guitarist Joël Grignard (Monsoon) – still deals in fresh pop with barbs that get stuck in new wave, psychedelica and funk supplemented by subtle electronica. Their third LP ‘Gravity’, on Brussels label dEPOT 214, again harbours the unpretentious pop they used to get a foot in the door in French-speaking Belgium and in France. With impressive, varied compositions like single ‘The Party’s In The Sky’, they hammer hard upon the door of the long-awaited breakthrough.
We complete the concert evening with more fine folk from the dEPOT 214 label. David Lund (Nox) comes to kick off, with his solo-debut ‘Ever’ – mixed by Pierre Vervloesem (who co-produced ‘Worst Case Scenario’ by dEUS) of Flat Earth Society – and with guest appearances by Nox-mates Elie Rabinovitch on drums and Catherine Graindorge on violin. Trumpet player Luc Van Lieshout is also involved in this very promising first issue by Lund, who likes to refer musically to Thom Yorke (Radiohead, Atoms For Peace), Mark Hollis (Talk Talk) and David Sylvain (Japan).
Afterwards, we release the post-rock of cecilia::eyes upon you. Their long-awaited third long-player ‘Disappearance’ will be released this month (March ’14) and, as of old, it will contain an exciting mix of post-rock, math-rock and shoegaze... with winks to Mono, Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and My Bloody Valentine. Dark, instrumental and filmic songs as soundtrack to this dEPOT 214 powered concert evening!
