In 2009 a number of interesting Brussels labels will receive extra attention on the stage of the ABClub. Aside from the Rat Records events already announced (the label of versatile jazz musician Teun Verbruggen and Bruno Vansina), on March 12 you can be there for a dEPOT 214 label night and on March 19 for a Green l.f.ant label night.

On March 12 it's the turn of dEPOT 214, a label in the good hands of Joël Grignard, amongst other things, bassist of the band Monsoon. 3 bands have been programmed: NOX, CECILIA::EYES and MY TV IS DEAD.

Nox consists of Catherine Graindorge (violin), David Christophe (bass) and Elie Rabinovitch (drums). They started out making jazz and post-rock improvisations, later flirting with rock in which the sound of Godspeed You Black Emperor or A Silver Mt. Zion was never far removed. In their universe, warmth and fragility embrace one another, just as comfort and absurdity. Their debut was produced by Pierre Vervloesem, who we know from his work with the likes of Flat Earth Society.

Cecilia::eyes is a foursome that deals in magnificent sound carpets woven with slow and somber melodies. Guitars with lots of reverb and complex rhythmics complete characteristic qualities. As far as emotionality goes, you can safely think Mono or Mogwai, but there is definitely also an association with the shoegazer sound that My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and Cocteau Twins also eagerly utilised. Here too, Pierre Vervloesem (dEUS, Monsoon) provided the production for the debut ‘Mountaintops Are Sometimes Closer To The Moon’. A second album will see the light of day this year.

Just like Nox, My TV is Dead has a connection to dance and theatre. dEPOT 214 brain Joël Grignard, who is also a member of this formation, got to know singer Amaury Massion at the Convulsions festival, where contemporary dance and music meet. Their electro-rock was born in Berlin where they regularly performed in the unofficial art circuit, and where they also found inspiration for the big-city images that are undoubtedly a part of their concert. Their debut will be out on March 10.
