Up-tempo pastoral folk is about the first musical description that pops into your head when you first listen to debut album ‘Sigh No More’ from Mumford & Sons. The band then also originated heart of the new London folk scene to which performers like Noah & The Whale and Laura Marling also belong. First single ‘Little Lion Man’ developed into a downright hit in our flat country, with massive airplay on Radio 1, Studio Brussel and, yes, even MNM. In the meantime there is already another new single ‘Winter Winds’ and many of us can now also sing along to ‘The Cave’. HUMO spoke of ‘cast-iron songs’ in the album review and their brilliant visit to Crossing Border in Antwerp last November obliged Mumford & Sons to a new concert, this time in the AB and then on Tuesday 27 April.
Support act will be British singer-songwriter Johnny Flynn. He cites musical influences as diverse as John Fahey and The Pixies but just as easily enjoys Yeats and Shakespeare as he spends the other half of his time on theatre stages. For the trivia-hunters amongst you: Flynn studied at the Bedales School where he shared the classes with Lily Allen, Luke Pritchard from The Kooks and Patrick Wolf. Debut ‘A Larum’ was well received in his homeland, receiving 4 stars from Q and Mojo magazines.
